Destination Space: Building a community around your mission or cause

In December 2015, as part of the Principia mission the ESA launched British astronaut Tim Peake into space.

In celebration of Tim Peake’s mission to the International Space Station, Destination Space is an exciting and hands-on season of astronauts and adventure for families and schools. To encourage school children around the country to get excited about space exploration, Destination Space wanted budding astronauts and space fans to share their story with #destinationspace and #jointhecrew.

They needed a tool to gather all these posts, as well as showing Tim’s awesome posts from space, in one place to display on big screens in science museums across the country and also on their website.

The lovely people at fffunction used our JavaScript Plugin to display AwesomeWall on their website, in just the way they wanted, showing the ‘latest transmissions’ from Tim Peake as well as children and families nationwide.

Alongside that, the team were also able to display the AwesomeWall on giant screens in science museums.

AwesomeWall’s SmartModeration system meant that the Destination Space team could have confidence in the posts appearing on the site and screens. They were able to whitelist Tim Peake’s social media accounts and their favourite sciencey, spacey people to ensure their posts would appear directly on the wall without the need for moderation; this meant continuous fresh content. They were then able to view the public’s posts before approving to add to the wall.

We love space and have been super excited to see all the posts rolling in. Check out
